SKYLouver™ is an energy-producing natural daylighting system that can substantially reduce building energy consumption by as much as 50%.

SKYLouver™ is a patented integrated solution combining modulated daylighting and concentrated solar thermal energy generation.  Whether in New Construction or Retrofit, SKYLouver™ delivers substantially lower operating costs and greatly increases the sustainability of your facility.

SKYLouver™ can virtually eliminate most of the need for indoor lighting in single-story buildings while also creating clean, renewable energy to satisfy a large portion of the building’s energy load. SKYLouver™ delivers energy at roughly half the cost of traditional source s driving payback periods as low as 2.5 to 5 years* for an average single-story commercial building.

The SKYLouver Value

SKYLouver:

• Lowers Operating Costs with a Quick Investment Recapture

• Uses Clean Renewable Energy

• Reduces Peak Demand Energy Consumption

• Reduces Grid Dependence

• Reduces Greenhouse Emissions

• Advanced Lighting Quality and Consistency

• Improved Occupant Comfort and Productivity

• LEED Certification

• Better Community Image

SKYLouver™ compounds solar efficiencies by capturing and utilizing both the sun’s direct and diffuse energy waves. Direct rays are concentrated and converted into thermal energy to satisfy existing building and/or process loads. Diffuse sunlight is distributed by the rooftop modules to provide stunning high-quality, consistent daylighting to the space below.

How SKYLouver Works

The following fields hold commercial installation/research opportunities for SKYLouver™:

Logistics/Warehousing

Athletic/Fitness Centers

Office/Education

Process/Manufacturing

SKYLouver Applications

Modulated aperture: Fixed aperture skylights are generally limited to a skylight-to-floor ratio (SFR) of about 4%. This places a fundamental limit on the fraction of building lighting that can be provided by standard skylights. SKYLouver™ allows for a great amount of natural daylight to enter the building without overheating it, something that traditional skylights simply can’t compete with.

Concentrating optics: The optics employ a patent-pending, non-imaging design that allows both the reflector and the focal plane to rotate, resulting in simultaneous aperture modulation and light concentration for maximum light and energy production.

SKYLouver Technology

Cascading energy utilization: Sound thermodynamic theory is the basis of SKYLouver™’s use of available solar resources, matching the grade of energy (exergy) to the application. Diffuse and direct solar energy are harvested in their most efficient and natural form—light. Excess energy is captured in the form of thermal energy to displace high-grade fossil fuel consumption. Higher heat temperature (>200 degrees F) means that space heating, cooling and process loads can be maintained cost-effectively.
